The Lagos State Police Command has busted a notorious cross-border child trafficking syndicate, rescuing eleven victims.
Four suspects were arrested, allegedly linked to the recruitment and transportation of Nigerians to Ghana for prostitution.
The breakthrough followed an operation on August 13, 2025, when operatives from the Ilemba Hausa Division intercepted one Mustapha Abubakar, a motorcycle operator and suspected recruiter.

He was apprehended while attempting to traffic a 15-year-old girl to Ghana.
The case was transferred to the Command’s Special Squad I, which launched a coordinated manhunt based on intelligence.
The operation led to the arrest of three more suspects: Charles Chima, 54, in Amuwo Odofin; Emmanuel Nwaka, 36, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway; and Princess John, 21, at Ojota.
Investigations revealed that the group was part of a wider trafficking network.
Ten other victims, aged between 21 and 29, were rescued and are now receiving protective care, with efforts underway to reunite them with their families.
Speaking on Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the operatives for their swift action.
“The Lagos State Police Command maintains zero tolerance for trafficking and exploitation. We will continue to dismantle these criminal syndicates and bring perpetrators to justice,” he said.
CP Jimoh also urged residents to assist law enforcement, stating: “Parents and guardians must remain vigilant, protect our young people, and report any suspicious movements or activities immediately to security agencies.”
One rescued victim, who cannot be named due to age, shared her ordeal: “I was scared, but the police rescued me before I was taken to Ghana. I am thankful to them for saving my life.”
The suspects remain in custody and are cooperating with investigators to expose other members of the network.
