The Delta State Police Command has dismissed reports of a bandit attack on Girls’ Secondary School, Utagba-Ogbe, Kwale, Delta State.
There was panic in the state after a social media post claimed that bandits had invaded a school in the state, prompting parents to rush to pick their children.
The State commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, described the report as entirely false and misleading.

He said, “The panic originated from misinformation circulated among students and was further amplified by unverified online reports suggesting community anxiety and alleged gunshots.”
He added that on receiving the information, he deployed operatives to school, where the Vice Principal and the security man on duty confirmed that no attack occurred and that the panic emanated solely from misinformation among students.
He stated that the Command also visited neighbouring schools within the Kwale axis as a precautionary measure, noting that all the schools were calm and safely running normal academic activities.
He assured parents that the situation had been fully brought under control, stressing that the rumour had been decisively addressed and normalcy restored.
CP Abaniwonda cautioned the public against spreading unverified reports that could cause fear or disrupt academic activities in schools.
