Police Arrest Two For Stabbing Motorcyclist To Death In Osun


The Osun State Police Command has apprehended two suspects, Habeeb Adedayo and Akeem Fawas, in connection with the murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Iwo.

The state police command, through spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed on Tuesday that the suspects were intercepted in Ibafo, Ogun State, while trying to dispose of the victim’s motorcycle.

The police stated that the suspects admitted to deceiving the 26-year-old victim, Segun Olatunji, by pretending to hire him to transport them to a farm, after which Adedayo allegedly stabbed him in the neck and slit his throat.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to have posed as farmers and lured the deceased by employing his service to convey them from Odo-Ori area, Iwo to their farmland along Olupon, Iwo, with an enticing sum of five thousand naira (N5,000).

“The suspects further confessed that, after reaching a certain location, they asked the deceased to stop; Habeeb Adedayo stabbed him in the neck, dragged him from the motorcycle and slit his throat with a knife.

“The suspects admitted to have committed the crime,” the statement partly read.

Ojelabi further stated that Adedayo admitted to committing previous robberies in the Ori-Eru, Agbowo, and Ebu Alare areas of Iwo. Items recovered during the investigation include a motorcycle and a knife.

In a another operation on 29 August, the Prompt Response Unit stopped a Toyota Camry with registration number JZ 756 ABC at Unity Junction, Ikire.

The driver reportedly abandoned the car and fled when asked to produce documents.

“Police Detective from Prompt Response Unit of the Command, while on stop and search duty at Unity junction Ikire intercepted a Toyota Camry with Reg. No. JZ 756 ABC, Golden colour.

“In the process of checking the car documents the driver took to his heels,” the spokesperson stated.

Ojelabi stated that preliminary investigations showed the vehicle had been stolen in Owode-Ede around midnight on the same day, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect on the run.
