Police arrest Lakurawa member, recover 10 rustled cows in Kebbi – Daily Trust


The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of the Lakurawa group and recovered 10 out of 68 cows rustled from Sogirma community in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as Salihu Umar, from Dogon Dutse in Niger Republic, was apprehended on Tuesday at the Bachaka cattle market, where he allegedly attempted to sell the stolen cows belonging to one Usman Aliyu of Zogirma town in Bunza.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the gang had rustled the cattle and initially moved them across the border into Niger Republic.

He said Umar was arrested when he returned to sell part of the herd, following intelligence received by the police.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, has directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation.

He also ordered intensified efforts to track down the fleeing members of the gang.
