Plateau assembly urges govt to commission abandoned hospital named after Buhari


Plateau State House of Assembly has, at the Tuesday’s plenary called on the state government to collaborate with the federal government, through the Ministry of Health to commission the abandoned Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital, at gidan Dabat, Kwande district in Quan’pan Local Government Area of the state.

This was part of the house resolution pursuant to a motion raised by Hon Theodore Maiyaki, saying the Hospital needed to be completed and put into operation for the benefit of his constituent.

“This specialised hospital is part of the network of only seven mother and child hospital established in the entire country by the federal government under a special intervention programme aimed at drastically reducing maternal and child mortality, especially in underserved rural communities,” he said.

After deliberations, the house presided over by Speaker Naanlong Daniel, resolved that the state government should collaborate with its federal counterpart at commissioning the facility.

It further mandated the state ministries of health, water resources and energy to immediately process the provision of the needed infrastructure in the hospital, as well as facilitate the employment of staff to provide services at the facility.

Meanwhile, the house has also called on the Plateau state government to revamp, equip and fully fund the state owned vocational and relevant technology board to meet up with modern technological advancement.
