The Dangote Group on Sunday sent representatives to collect the remains of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna, from the hospital where she passed on, as reported by PUNCH Metro.
Ruth, who had her leg amputated after being struck by a truck belonging to the Dangote Group near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State last Wednesday, passed away on Sunday morning, only weeks after the tragic incident.
The family confirmed her passing on Sunday in a statement issued by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, noting that Ruth died earlier that day at around 6:30 a.m.

“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.
The family further stated that they are deeply mourning Ruth’s loss and appealed for privacy as they go through this period of grief.
“The family is presently grieving and will appreciate being given a private moment to mourn the departed. The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement added.
A family insider told PUNCH Metro that after Ruth passed away, officials from the Dangote Group were quickly informed and later arranged for her body to be taken to the mortuary.
“When she died this morning, the representatives of Dangote Group were contacted and notified. They later came and took the corpse to the mortuary. We are expecting that they take over the expenses of her burial, since they had stepped in to take over her medical expenses,” the source who pleaded anonymity said.
Another family member, who wished to remain anonymous during the mourning period, described Ruth as a loving and joyful individual.
“We will miss her. We had thought she would survive after she started recuperating. She was very loving to be with. We used to call her Bobo, which was her nickname. She stayed with her parents at Ketu-Alapere from where they often visited our family house in Omojua Estate, Kosofe,” the relative said.
Eyewitnesses had said that the heavy-duty truck that struck Otabor crushed her leg before a bystander intervened and managed to stop the vehicle.
Phyna had called for her sister to be flown to India to receive medical treatment.
However, the Dangote Group confirmed the incident, saying its team went to the site, engaged with law enforcement, and met with the family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo State. The company also assured that it would provide comprehensive medical assistance and compensation according to its welfare policy.
