President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Tokyo, Japan, for the
ninth Tokyo international conference on African development (TICAD9).

In a statement, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special adviser on
information and strategy, said the president landed in the Asian country early
Tuesday morning local time to join other African leaders who will be attending
the summit from August 20 to 22 at the Pacifico Yokohama.

According to Onanuga, Tinubu was received at the
presidential wing of the Haneda International Airport, Tokyo, by Hideo
Matsubara, the ambassador in charge of the airport for TICAD; Yusuf Tuggar,
Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs; and officials from the Nigerian embassy.

The Japanese government initiated the triennial event, which
is co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African
Union Commission, and the World Bank.

The event alternates between Japan and Africa, with Tunisia
as the last host on August 22.

With the theme ‘Co-create innovative solutions with Africa’,
the TICAD9 will focus on Africa’s economic transformation and improvements in
the business environment and institutions through private investment and
innovation.

It will also promote a resilient and sustainable African
society for human security, peace, and stability.

Onanuga said during the conference that Tinubu will hold
bilateral meetings and participate in high-profile meetings with the chief
executive officers of some Japanese companies with investments in Nigeria.
