Renowned philanthropist and business mogul, Alhaji Murtala Abdulkadir Dan’iya, has donated ₦50 million and 5,500 bags of rice to orphans, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and other vulnerable individuals across Sokoto State.
The donation was formally unveiled during a distribution ceremony held at the Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Agency.
Dan’iya said the initiative was aimed at alleviating the suffering of vulnerable citizens affected by insecurity and economic hardship.

“This gesture is my way of standing with those most affected by the prevailing hardship in our state.
“It is intended to provide immediate relief and restore a sense of hope.” he said
According to Dan’iya, 300 bags of rice were allocated to each of the four most insecurity-prone local government areas—Sabon Birni, Isa, Goronyo, and Rabah—which have been repeatedly hit by banditry, resulting in the displacement of hundreds and the orphaning of many children.
The remaining 19 local government areas received 200 bags of rice each, to be distributed among other vulnerable individuals including widows, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
Each of the 5,500 beneficiaries also received ₦5,000 in cash to support transportation and other immediate needs.
Out of the ₦50 million donation, Dan’iya allocated ₦10 million to support indigent patients unable to afford medication in public hospitals, while an additional ₦5 million was set aside for individuals seeking medical assistance through the Zakkat and Endowment Agency.
A portion of the funds was also set aside to support staff of the agency and selected individuals providing essential services in the state.
He noted that his philanthropic efforts reflect the values instilled in him by his mentor, the Jarman Sokoto, Alhaji Umarun Kwabo A.A., who consistently encouraged them to support the community with whatever resources they have.
The Chairman of the Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Agency, Malam Lawal Maidoki, lauded the donation, describing Dan’iya as a “consistent and compassionate supporter of the less privileged.”
“He has always identified with the masses, especially in difficult times,” Maidoki said.
“We pray Almighty Allah continues to increase him in wealth, wisdom, and good health.”
He also urged other well-meaning individuals in the state to emulate Dan’iya’s generosity, especially during this sacred month when acts of charity are rewarded manifold.
Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke to journalists at the event, expressed gratitude and offered prayers for the donor, asking God to grant him continued prosperity and the strength to carry on with his humanitarian work.
Dan’iya’s latest intervention adds to a growing record of philanthropic efforts targeted at Sokoto’s most vulnerable populations, particularly those affected by insecurity and economic hardship.
