Peter Obi’s 2027 ambition unclear, LP has no structure — Kenneth Okonkwo

Opposition coalition member and former Labour Party chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has expressed doubts about Peter Obi’s political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Okonkwo was asked if the former Labour Party presidential candidate would run under the same platform in 2027.

In response, he declared that the Labour Party currently lacks any real structure, making Obi’s next move uncertain.

“The Labour Party has no structure at all. In 2023, we had our structure in the Labour Party, and as of now, we have no structure again. Even the national leadership of the party is an issue. The INEC cannot categorically tell you who they are, nor can anybody,” Okonkwo stated.

He noted that while Obi has shown support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he has not declared whether he would contest on its platform.

“You are asking me if I think Peter Obi will run under the Labour Party or not, and he has told you he supports ADC, but he has not told me the party he would run on. I wouldn’t know the answer to that question,” Okonkwo added.

The lawyer and politician further stressed that he could not speak for Obi, especially since he does not clearly understand Obi’s position on key national issues, including his 2027 ambitions.

“One reason I said I wouldn’t speak for him is that I will not speak for a person I do not understand his stance on important national issues. Now, I do not understand his stand on anything about 2027, so it’s still a mystery that he would break himself,” he said.
