Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the Super Eagles to remain resilient despite Nigeria’s painful exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
The Eagles crashed out after a tense 1–1 draw over 120 minutes against DR Congo at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, eventually losing 4–3 on penalties, their second consecutive failure to qualify for the World Cup.
Reacting in a post on his 𝕏 account on Monday, Obi acknowledged the emotional toll of the defeat while praising the team’s commitment.
He wrote, “Our dear Super Eagles, I know how deeply yesterday’s outcome weighs on each of you.
“When you wear the green and white, you carry the heartbeat of the whole nation, and I acknowledge the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment you put into every match.”
Obi encouraged the players not to allow the setback to define their future, stressing that the most important response is to rebuild with focus and discipline.
He said, “But let this moment not break your spirit. Great teams are defined by their response to adversity.
“What matters now is how we stand, regroup, and rebuild with even greater discipline, focus, and preparedness. I am confident you can rise stronger.”
The former Anambra State governor reminded the team that national belief in their abilities remains strong.
He wrote, “Do not let today overshadow the greatness of tomorrow. The Eagle never bows its head; it lifts its wings.
“Keep your heads high and stay committed. Nigeria believes in you, and together, we will soar again. Keep soaring, Super Eagles.”
