The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, has applauded the commitment and decades-long service of retirees from the ministry, describing their transition into retirement as “a new beginning” filled with purpose, gratitude, and renewed opportunities.
Speaking at a send forth ceremony held in their honour, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro rejoiced with the retirees and thanked God for keeping them alive and healthy to witness the milestone.
She emphasized that retirement is a privilege many do not live to experience. “Going home is a privilege that has been denied to so many,” she said.
“Some who began this journey with you are no longer here; others retired on sickbeds or in wheelchairs. But you are here today, strong and looking good. We celebrate you and the Almighty God who has kept you.”
The PS noted that many of the retirees had served across different ministries, contributing immensely to the advancement of the federal service and inspiring colleagues along the way.
She commended their discipline, work ethic, and dedication, noting that some had never faced disciplinary issues throughout their careers.
Expressing admiration for their resilience, she highlighted that completing 35 years in service is no small feat. “Experience cannot be bought in the market,” she said.
“You carry a wealth of experience that this nation values deeply. Retirement is not the end you can still contribute meaningfully. Bring back the expertise you have gathered over the years.”
She also encouraged active officers to take good care of themselves as they progress in service, stressing the importance of maintaining a healthy work life balance.
The Permanent Secretary praised the cordial relationships the retirees maintained with their colleagues, noting that unlike experiences in some ministries where retirees feel unwelcome, those from Women Affairs could return freely and be celebrated.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Mrs. Friyalc Bulus, expressed deep appreciation to the ministry for the warm reception and recognition accorded to them, describing the gesture as a remarkable departure from past experiences.
She noted that such gatherings were not common in previous years, adding that the large turnout and the honour given to retirees meant a great deal to them.
She thanked the organisers for putting together the ceremony and prayed for God’s blessings and success in the ministry’s new phase.
She also expressed confidence that the leadership would continue to uphold the values of service and compassion.
Another retiree, Mrs Obinna Ngozi commended the Permanent Secretary for her dedication and resilience, noting that the ministry had witnessed extremely demanding periods that required intense work for days and weeks at a stretch.
“Believe me, it is not easy. Some of us even grew white hairs overnight because of the pressure. But despite the challenges, we remained committed because our duty was not to create problems but to help solve them,” she said.
She added that the Permanent Secretary had been entrusted with a great responsibility and prayed for wisdom to continue guiding the ministry effectively.
