All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government has been cautioned to perish the thought of imposing state of emergency in Osun state.
The Acting National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Damagun, gave this warning, while reacting to what happened in Osun state that led to the death of some persons.
Damagun, in a statement by his Personal Assistant, called on the APC government to immediately refrain from putting further pressure on the incumbent governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke and allow him to remain focused and continue delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
He noted that the unfortunate bloodshed at different Local Government Areas would have been avoided.
The PDP Acting Chairman pointed out that the renewed furore was part of the APC antics to reignite the onslaughts and threat made by the APC leader, who boasted that they would take over Osun and Oyo states.
Damagun warned that, “Nigeria isn’t a Banana Republic, therefore there’s an elastic limit to what the citizens can tolerate.”
Commenting on the shameful meddling of the APC government in the Osun state latest uproar, Damagun advised that the federal government should focus more on fixing the economy of Nigeria, and allow the political space to thrive naturally.
He bemoaned the high cost of living, where people can no longer feed, noting the negative impact on Nigerians.
He further noted the insecurity that has engulfed Nigeria under the APC government, adding, “fixing Nigeria should be the focus of the government, and not how to unlawfully capture more states.
“It’s obvious that the people have rejected the APC government in Nigeria, therefore let nobody come by way of thinking of a State of Emergency to oppress the opposition. Let it be clear that Nigeria belongs to all of us. There shouldn’t be room for any intimidation of any kind.
“Let APC government know that the citizens of Osun State deserve security and good governance, which are being provided by the PDP government. From records, the people are happy with Governor Adeleke.
“I want to warn those who want to truncate this democracy to be aware of their continued plots and their implications, as they can’t continue to push Nigerians to the wall. This is unacceptable! We are not at war; we are only tax payers that deserve good governance,” Damagun said.
He called on the security agencies to shun partisanship, and remain objective in their duties, adding, “security should know that they’re being paid with taxpayer’s money, and they should be ready to protect all citizens, and refuse to take sides.
“And we call on all citizens to be vigilant, and wary of the APC antics being deployed as this won’t continue unchecked. Let APC government know that the people have their rights, and they’re willing to express it at any time. As the leading opposition party, we’ll continue to follow lawful means to pass our concerns and register injustices against our party and members.”
