PENGASSAN Cuts Off Gas Supply To Dangote Refinery Over Union Dispute

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has ordered an immediate halt to gas and crude oil supply to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery following the disengagement of some of its members.

In a directive issued on Friday, PENGASSAN accused the refinery’s management of punishing workers for exercising their right to unionise.

“The Management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has disengaged our members in reaction to the exercise of their constitutional right to being unionized,” the union’s General Secretary, Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa, stated in the circular.

He added that the company had embarked “on a mission of misinformation and propaganda to justify this illegitimacy rather than engaging meaningfully with us to right the wrong.”

As part of its response, the union instructed its branch chairmen to stop all supply operations to the refinery.

“All crude oil supply valves to the Refinery should be shut. The loading operation for vessel headed there should be halted immediately,” the directive read.

The letter, referenced PENG.47/IR-int.000316/025, further mandated the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) chairman to ensure that “gas supply to the Refinery is cut off effective immediately.”

PENGASSAN, an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), asked all branch leaders involved in the action to report progress without delay.

The directive ended with the union’s solidarity mantra: “Injury to one, injury to all.”
