PDP’s Oyekunle wins Oyo Rep by-election – Daily Trust


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Folajimi Oyekunle, winner of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday.

The INEC Returning Officer, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare, made the declaration at the end of the collation exercise at Ikolaba High School, Ibadan.

He announced that Oyekunle polled 18,404 to beat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adewale Olatunji, popularly known as Murphy, by a distant margin, with 8,312 votes.

Oluwadare added that Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress recorded 88 votes, while Olabisi Olajumoke of the All Progressives Grand Alliance polled 40 votes.

“This is the declaration. I, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2025 Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, held on the 16th day of August, 2024.

“That Folajinmi Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election,” he said.

Oyekunle replaces the late lawmaker, Musiliu Akinremi, popularly known as Jagaban, who died in 2024.
