PDP crisis: Saboteurs working to prevent party’s NEC meeting -Lawmakers

The coalition of opposition lawmakers in the National Assembly, has raised the alarm that there were grand plans by some internal saboteurs to ensure the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) does not hold its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The group, while commending the governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara, for his humility in accepting and commencing the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment on the political crisis in the state, also raised the alarm over alleged fresh plot by pro-Wike lawmakers to prevent the scheduled local government elections.

Spokesman of the group, Ikenga Ugochinyere, during a media briefing Wednesday said part of the plots was to use the ongoing dispute over the national secretary position of the party to ensure that the PDP does not have a stable house to field candidates for national elections.

The group saluted the courage of the National Working Committee (NWC) to go ahead with its meeting in spite of attempted disruption.

Thugs had earlier attempted to disrupt the said meeting when staff, party members and security agencies reportedly mobilise and arrested the situation from snowballing into a crisis.

The group said the intention was to stop the main opposition PDP from holding convention, and thereby entering into merger with others to possibly produce a presidential candidate.
