Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has accused the Federal Government of actively enabling the escalating crisis within the opposition party.
While briefing newsmen on the State of the Nation, George warned that Nigeria is “dangerously wobbling politically,” alleging that those entrusted with protecting the nation’s democratic institutions are instead undermining them for personal and partisan gain.
He also spoke on the recent gale of defections in the party include the resignation of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, insisting the PDP still remains the only national party.

According to him, the recent disruption at the PDP National Secretariat on November 18—allegedly carried out by expelled party members with backing from a serving Federal Minister—marks a grave assault on democratic order.
He condemned what he described as an unlawful attempt to prevent the party’s duly elected leadership from taking office, insisting that such actions threaten Nigeria’s multi-party system.
George questioned the legality of the police takeover of the PDP headquarters, asking: “Who authorised the police to take over the headquarters? Under what authority? Since when does a tenant overtake a landlord?”
He said, “The forced entry into the PDP National Secretariat crossed every line of decency and legality. Nigeria has moved beyond the era where sheer force overrides order. The question now is: Who authorised the police to take over the headquarters? Under what authority? Since when does a tenant overtake a landlord?
“It is troubling that, in the face of all this, the President — the custodian of our democracy — has remained silent. Silence at such a moment can only be interpreted as tacit approval.”
He warned that President Bola Tinubu’s silence could be interpreted as tacit approval.
He said, “I want to reiterate that what the Federal Government is doing in this PDP matter, by giving police protection to some renegades who have vowed to destroy our party, is completely illegal and Nigerians know this.
“Constitutionality is being disregarded and disrespected. It is not possible for illegality to overcome legality. It will never happen, now or later. Mr. President, this is not the time for silence.
“Our country’s image is suffering, and the actions of a few are giving governance an unfortunate public face.”
