The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its unity and institutional strength despite reports of planned defections by some of its governors.
The opposition party emphasized that its foundation is rooted in the people rather than individual ambitions.
Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary and Secretary of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee for the 2025 National Convention, made the declaration during an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja.

He stressed that the PDP would not be distracted by what he described as “orchestrated defections” allegedly engineered by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ologunagba noted that the attention generated by the reports showed the growing national interest in the PDP and its activities ahead of the convention.
“Let me say this; the stories of defection or possible defection that are catching Nigerians’ attention show that we have a political master,” he said.
He added, “Because of the foundation of the PDP that is strong, solid, and based on the people, we remain the only truly democratic party in this country, one built on ideas, convictions, and policies.”
On the party’s resilience, Ologunagba stated, “Even when some top figures, including presidents and vice-presidents, left the PDP in the past, the party endured.
It survived because it is not built on personalities but on enduring values and the aspirations of Nigerians.”
He further warned the ruling party against attempts to weaken the PDP ahead of 2027: “We will not allow orchestrated manoeuvres to derail our democratic mission.
“The PDP is stronger today because it is grounded in principles, not whims or political games.”
