The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), on Thursday in Abuja honoured 10 newly promoted senior police officers over commitment and dedication to duty.

Speaking at the special commendation session held in honour of the officers, Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyan, the National Chairman of PCRC said the session was born out of PCRC’s belief in Nigeria.

Olaniyan said the session was to appreciate the officers picked out of several others that deserved it for their dedication and service to the country.

He said the idea was to showcase the officers, adding that the country lacks the culture of appreciation, especially for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, these men we are celebrating today have chosen a path where they don’t have freedom, no time for their families and dedicate all their lives to service for the nation.

“We want to show to the world that the PCRC, an organisation, established over 41 years ago with over 40 million members.

“We are promoting the good image of the Nigeria Police Force and have chosen to celebrate the best among them.

“One good thing about PCRC is that, if we celebrate any police officer, we back it up with money and it is not to bribe them.

“We send them back to their families with the token we have given them in appreciation to the sacrifices they are making for the country,” he said.

In his remark, the AIG of Police (AIG) in charge of the Directorate of Legal Services at the Force Headquarters and one of the awardees, Mr Ohiozoba Ehide commended the PCRC for the award.

Ehiede said the award was an indication that contributions being made by individuals were being recognised, locally and internationally.

He said the contribution he had made was not about the PCRC but about the Nigeria Police Force.

The AIG called on the leadership of the PCRC to remain united in the pursuit of the goals of the committee.

Some of the senior officers honoured were Mr Johnson Adenola, the AIG in charge of Zone 16, Yenagoa and Mr Ohiozoba Ehiede, the AIG in charge of Legal Service, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Others include Ahmed Lateef, a Commissioner of Police (CP) and PSO II to the Inspector General of Police (I-G), Akin Fakorede, CP, I-G Monitoring Unit, Uduak Ita, Deputy Commandant, Police College, Orji-River and the immediate past Force PRO DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.(NAN)
