Paul Onuachu has been great this season, but coach Eric Chelle did not invite him to the Super Eagles squad…
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has won the award for the best goal in the Turkish Super Lig for the month of August, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onuachu has been in red-hot form for Trabzonspor since joining the club from Southampton during the summer transfer window.
The 30-year-old marksman has contributed six goals in eight appearances for Trabzonspor. He currently leads the goalscoring charts in Turkey with one goal more than Galatasaray’s Mauro Icardi.

Now, Onuachu has not just been scoring goals, he has been scoring them in style. The Super Eagles star has been scoring bangers.
In Trabzonspor’s 4-3 win over Karagumruk last week, he scored a worldie, and that attracted a lot of interest. But before that, in August, Onuachu scored another beauty.
Against Samsunspor on August 31, the Super Eagles star scored the only goal for Trabzonspor in a 1-1 draw against Samsunspor.
Despite his big frame, he threw himself at a cross from Oleksandr Zubkov and sent a beautiful header which beat Okan Kocuk and nestled in the net.

Before the Black Sea Storm’s game against Kayserispor on Friday, Onuachu’s goal against Samsunspor was named as the Goal of the Month for August in the Turkish Super Lig.

After his award, the Super Eagles star went on to provide an assist and a goal for Trabzonspor, as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Kayserispor.
When Will Eric Chelle Call-Up Paul Onuachu?
Paul Onuachu is currently the highest goalscoring Nigerian striker in Europe, but he was surprisingly omitted from Eric Chelle’s 23-man squad to take on Lesotho and Benin later this month.

Strikers like Akor Adams and Cyriel Dessers, who are yet to fully establish themselves at their clubs, were called up.
Eric Chelle’s decision to leave out Onuachu was quite atrocious, and it might leave the former Southampton man wondering what he has to do to return to the fold. If he continues with his current form, it would be foolhardy to continue to ignore him.
Onuachu has three goals for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in 23 appearances. His last appearance was in June 2024, in a World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic.
