Pate speaks on diversity crisis as Adamawa CoS retires

The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, Professor Umaru Pate, will tomorrow deliver a lecture on the thorny issues of identity and diversity in various parts of Nigeria and the imperatives of citizens showing solidarity with one another.

Pate, a foremost communication scholar, will be the guest lecturer at a public lecture heralding the retirement of Dr Edgar Amos Sunday from public service.

Edgar, who is the Chief of Staff (CoS) to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, is the immediate past Head of Civil Service in the state.

A doctor of veterinary medicine, Sunday started his career as Veterinary Officer II in the defunct Gongola State civil service in 1991 and rose through the ranks to become permanent secretary in the Ministry of Rural Infrastructure and Community Development in Adamawa State.

As an activist, Sunday served as the National President of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association from 2014 to 2016.

Daily Trust reports that issues of ethnic identity and diversity have over the years created great social upheavals in various parts of Nigeria, with most people finding it difficult to identify with other citizens and therefore less willing to show solidarity even where they reside in the same community.

It is expected that the lecture to be delivered by Professor Pate will help to douse the tension often being created by those issues not only in Adamawa State, but at the national level.
