The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has branded remaining Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders as “undertakers” awaiting the opposition party’s demise, following a spate of defections to the APC.
In a statement on Saturday, APC Spokesman Seye Oladejo dismissed the PDP’s claim that defections cannot destabilize it, calling it a sign of “denial, delusion, and self-deception.”
Oladejo attributed the PDP’s collapse to years of internal deceit, lack of ideology, and leadership failures, likening the party to a house built on quicksand.
“The exodus from the PDP confirms that even its loyalists have lost faith in a party that has failed to reform or offer a credible alternative,” he said, describing the remaining members as preparing for the party’s “final burial.”
He argued that the PDP, which governed Nigeria for 16 years before the APC’s rise, thrived on propaganda and mismanagement, and cannot reinvent itself as a viable opposition due to its “cesspool of confusion and leadership vacuum.”
Oladejo linked the defections to growing support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, urging the PDP to face its waning relevance ahead of 2027.
The APC spokesman framed the defections as endorsements of the party’s commitment to progress and people-centered governance, declaring the era of “deceitful opposition politics” over.
Recent defections include two PDP members of the Ondo State House of Assembly—former Minority Leader Olajide Oguntodu (Akure South 1) and his deputy Oluwatoyin Daodu (Akoko South West 1)—who cited internal crises in the PDP as their reason for joining the APC on Thursday.
Oladejo advised the PDP to conduct an honest assessment of its failures, warning that its continued denial would lead to a “humiliating exit” from Nigeria’s political landscape.
