PAAU Matriculates 7,991 Students For 2024/2025 Academic Session

LOKOJA – The Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba has matriculated 7,991 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.

This is as the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Marietu Ohunene Tenuche disclosed that 477 students from the institution have benefited from the student loan scheme of the Nigerian
Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) while a total of 1822 other students she mentioned have benefitted from the Kogi State Student Support programme initiated by the Alhaji Usman Ododo administration.

The Vice Chancellor, Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba, Prof. Marietu Ohunene Tenuche made the disclosure at the 26th matriculation ceremony, of the institution held at the weekend.

In her address at the matriculation, the Vice Chancellor expressed her profound gratitude to the excellent and sustained support the institution is enjoying from the administration of Gov Usman Ahmed Ododo.

The Vice Chancellor disclosed that all the courses at the institution has the full accreditation of the National Universities Commission (NUC), cautioned against cultism, rape, extortion of money from students using class representatives, indecent dressing.

She listed unwholesome celebration upon graduation, peddling of false reports especially on
social media, cybercrime, among others, as vices that are unacceptable in the University, disclosed that out of over 70% of convictions for crime in recent times in the institution, 60% is on cybercrime.

Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor added that courses run by the University enjoys accreditation from number of professional bodies
like the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG), Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), Council of
Legal Education NLE.
She stated that through efficient policies and administrative she has continually
ensured the provision of a holistically conducive environment for teaching, learning and
research with unbroken academic calendar.

She urged the matriculating students to obtain the institution’s hand book, said it should serve as their guide
throughout the duration of their studies in PAAU Anyigba.

She equally urge students to be vanguards in the elimination of antisocial vices on campus by
reporting irregular behaviuor, serving as whistle blowers to expose ills on campus and serving
as volunteers in various Committees set up to root out all acts inimical to the maintenance of peace and tranquility required for the pursuit of learning, character building and general development on campus.

She reiterated the sustained efforts of her administration to improve security, Infrastructure, listed Some projects like the construction of a new state of the art Senate Building, construction
of a 500 seater lecture theatre at the college of health sciences and construction of
academic office blocks in two Faculties (all under TETFund sponsorship) as her avowed commitment to making learning conducive.

She added that with the support of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo the institution is embarking on the renovation of hostels and other facilities on Campus as well as through a Public Private Partnership arrangement earlier approved
by the University Governing Council.

The University she explained has also embraced the Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Scheme of the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency,
resulting in the University being better equipped in the provision of health care for her

According to the Vice Chancellor, “We have invested and continue to invest resources and time towards developing sporting
facilities on campus as a means of keeping staff and students healthy, relaxed, and taking
students minds away from criminality.

“These facilities include lawn tennis courts, squash
courts, badminton courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, state of the art pavilion, handball court, etc.

“We have also provided additional training pitches for football on campus.
Our efforts are yielding fruits as our football team, KSU Steelers, is the current champion of the Higher Institutions Football league (HIFL) in Nigeria.

“Our University is also a strong and
acknowledged contender on the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) arena. I am delighted to
inform you that, our University is one of the very few higher institutions with synthetic soccer
pitch in Nigeria.

“Still on team sports, a student of the Library and Information Science Department, Bello Daniel Emiloju who plays handball for the Nigerian National Hand Ball
Senior Team was in Varna, Bulgaria between April and May 2023 for the International
Handball Federation’s Emerging Nations Championship and was also in Egypt in January 2024
for the African Nations Cup where the team won the President’s Cup. “Emiloju also plays
Clubside Handball for Tojemarine Handball Club in Nigeria which emerged as the second runner up in the 2023 Ardova Premier League.
“In the area of individual sports, Zainab Abdulsalam a student of our Economics Department,
won 6 medals at 3 different national Karate events in 2023. Furthemore, Suleiman Aisha Azumi, a student of the Biochemistry Department who is a National Chess player emerged winner at the Beecass chess and scrabble fiesta at Abuja in August 2023 and 1st runner-up at
the National Chess Championship held at Lagos in October 2023″, called on the matriculating students to make up their minds to distinguish yourselves as worthy ambassadors of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor said students will be heavily sanctioned for misuse or negligence
resulting in the damage or destruction of any of the institution’s facilities, said her administration has zero tolerance for antisocial vices.
