Oyo NUJ Demands Probe Into Journalist, Ojo Peter’s Murder By Armed Robbers – Independent Newspaper Nigeria


The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is demanding a thorough investigation into the killing of journalist Ojo Peter, who was gunned down by suspected armed robbers in Ibadan on August 18, 2025.

Ojo Peter, a former reporter with Parrot Extra and Daily Monitor, was shot in the back during a daylight robbery along the Molete-Oke Ado axis of Ibadan.

The details of the deceased’s death was made known to the Union on Monday, about three weeks after his death.

The Acting Chairman of the Union, Sola Oladapo in a statement on Tuesday said the Union was saddened by the untimely death of the said reporter.

According to Oladapo, Ojo Peter was for several years a Crime Reporter who contributed to the safety of the society.

“The Union is saddened by the news of Ojo Peter’s recent killing in Ibadan by suspected armed robbers. The attack occurred along Molete-Oke Ado axis of Ibadan, Oyo State on August 18, 2025, around 2 p.m.

“Sources said Ojo Peter was robbed of his cross bag; despite pleading to the robbers that the bag contained no money, he was still shot in the back,” Oladapo said.

While describing the incident as unfortunate, Oladapo urged the State Police Command to fish out the killers of the deceased journalist.

Oladapo, on behalf of the Union’s Chairman, Ademola Babalola who was on annual leave condoled the family of the deceased and urged them to take solace in the fact that the deceased left indelible marks in the sand of time.

It would be recalled that Ojo Peter’s brother, Peter Enahoro, on Monday expressed grief over the senseless killing, highlighting his brother left home healthy but was gunned down while trying to make ends meet.

The media community in Oyo State is mourning his loss, with calls for justice and accountability by the Oyo NUJ.
