Burkina Faso international Dango Ouattara marked his debut in style, scoring the decisive goal as Brentford secured their first Premier League win of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Ouattara, who signed last week from Bournemouth for a club-record £42.5m, struck in the 12th minute to give new Bees head coach Keith Andrews three points in his first home league game in charge.
The goal came via classic route-one football: goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher’s long kick was flicked on by Igor Thiago, and Ouattara broke through. Though Emiliano Martinez blocked his initial effort, the 22-year-old reacted sharply to bury the rebound.
Villa, flat in the first half, improved after the break but were repeatedly denied by Kelleher’s assured goalkeeping.
Brentford nearly doubled their advantage before half-time when Mikkel Damsgaard volleyed home, but VAR ruled it out for a foul on Martinez by captain Nathan Collins.
The win lifts Brentford’s spirits under Andrews as they begin a new era, while Villa’s frustrating afternoon ended without reward despite second-half dominance.
