2 days ago 35

The Ooni of Ife and co-chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN), Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Thursday said traditional rulers have intervened in the ongoing crisis over local government administration in the state.

He stated this while receiving into his palace the Deputy British High Commissioner, Mr Jonny Baxter, who was on courtsy visit.

The Ooni said the Osun state Council of Obas and Chiefs are making efforts to restore normalcy and peace in the state.

He cautioned all the warring politicians in the state to sheath their swords and remember that no one is greater than the state. He said political actors in the state should prioritise peace over personal ambitions.

“The destruction of lives and properties for political gains is unwarranted. Osun has been known for peace and harmony over the years as the British Deputy Commissioner here has noted,” he said.

Ooni Ogunwusi added, “I, on behalf of the Osun State Council Of Obas and Chiefs call on all politicians in Osun state to sheath their swords and remember  that no one is greater than the state.”

Speaking, the Deputy British High Commissioner, Mr Jonny Baxter, expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in Osun state, saying, “I have known Osun state to be a peaceful place for the past 15 years. Seeing and hearing about the destruction of lives and properties for political reason is deeply condemnable.”

The Deputy British High Commissioner tasked the Ooni, as the paramount leader of the Yoruba people, to take decisive steps to restore the peace and tranquility for which the state is known.
