One Killed, Several Abducted As Bandits Attack Katsina Community

Suspected bandits have killed one person and abducted several others in Dantankari community, located in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The attack, which occurred on Wednesday night, also left at least six people injured with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

According to eyewitnesses, many residents were seated outside their homes, chatting with friends and family members when the armed men suddenly struck.

One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, recounted the terrifying moment of the invasion. He said:
“The bandits attacked while people were sitting outside chatting. Suddenly, we heard sporadic gunshots coming from various directions. They killed one person, injured five, and abducted many others.”

The source further lamented that despite efforts to alert security operatives during the assault, no assistance came until the attackers had left.

Another eyewitness explained that several women and children were among those abducted, though the exact number of victims would only be known after families confirm their missing relatives.

This latest attack comes less than two weeks after a similar incident in Unguwan Mantau, Malumfashi Local Government Area, where more than 30 people, mostly worshippers in a mosque, were killed. In that raid, over 80 residents were abducted, but security forces later rescued 79 of them through a combined operation involving the military and the air force.

The Malumfashi tragedy prompted Governor Dikko Radda to cut short his three-week medical leave abroad. Upon his return, he visited the affected community and pledged both financial support and infrastructure development to help victims recover.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, had yet to respond to inquiries regarding the Dantankari attack.
