One Killed As Rival Cult Groups Clash In Kwara Polytechnic


A former student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, was on Tuesday killed during a violent clash involving rival cult groups allegedly linked to past students of the institution.

The victim, identified as Oyelade Habeeb Olawale, was a former student of the Civil Engineering Department with matriculation number ND20CECFT206.

Sources within the polytechnic said the incident briefly disrupted academic activities before security operatives intervened and arrested several suspects believed to be connected to the violence.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Halima Garba, said the confrontation occurred earlier in the day and involved ex-students associated with cult groups.

She described the development as “unfortunate and regrettable,” noting that one life was lost.

Garba said the management condemned the act and extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

She explained that the institution’s internal security unit acted swiftly through intelligence gathering, which aided in the arrest of the suspects. They have since been handed over to the police for further investigation.

According to her, normalcy has been restored on campus, and academic activities have resumed fully.

Garba assured staff, students, and the surrounding community that the polytechnic remains a safe environment for learning and personal development.

She urged students and residents to promptly report any suspicious movement or activities to security authorities to sustain peace and prevent future occurrences.
