One Dead, Five Arrested In Rival Cult Clash In Badagry


Lagos State Police Command confirms that one person dies and five suspects are arrested following a violent clash between rival cult groups in the Onireke and Isashi communities of Badagry, Lagos State.

Police responding to the incident recover a locally fabricated pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live bullets, two spent cartridges, a Toyota Avalon (registration number KTU 610 JB), a laptop, mobile phones, and other dangerous weapons from the suspects.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command’s spokesperson, states this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos. She notes that the suspects, aged between 28 and 43, are apprehended during a coordinated operation that quickly contains the violence and restores normalcy to the area.

“Police respond to a distress call at around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, reporting clashes between rival cult groups in Onireke and Isashi,” Adebisi explains.

She adds that tactical teams and detectives are immediately deployed to the scene, rescuing three injured victims who are rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment.

“Unfortunately, one of the victims is confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at Badagry General Hospital,” Adebisi adds.

She confirms that the swift follow-up operation leads to the arrest of five suspects believed to participate in the attack. They remain in police custody and will face court proceedings upon the conclusion of investigations.

Authorities continue efforts to apprehend fleeing cult members, while security patrols and surveillance intensify in the affected communities to prevent reprisals.

According to Daily Post, CP Olohundare Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police, commends the officers for their professionalism and prompt action in handling the situation.

He reiterates the Lagos State Police Command’s commitment to stamping out cultism and other violent crimes, urging residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
