The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported an accident at Majidun, Ikorodu Road, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

The accident, involving a commercial bus and a stationary tipper truck, resulted in one adult female fatality and six passengers seriously injured.

Preliminary inquiries established that the crash involved a Volkswagen commercial bus (Reg. No. EPE 494 XM), which was chartered to convey passengers to a scheduled program in Ogijo, and a stationary tipper truck parked opposite MRS Filling Station for a diesel purchase.

The ill-fated commercial bus reportedly experienced an abrupt brake failure.

The driver was traveling at excessive speed, resulting in collision with the tipper truck.

The brutal impact led to the instantaneous death of one adult female passenger. Five other female occupants and one male passenger sustained severe and life-threatening injuries.

LASTMA operatives executed a swift and coordinated response.

The five injured casualties were immediately rushed to the nearby Benic Special Hospital.

The remains of the deceased were transferred to the General Hospital, Ikorodu, for documentation.

In a spirited chase, LASTMA personnel pursued and apprehended the tipper truck driver who attempted to abscond upon witnessing the tragedy. The driver of the commercial bus was also arrested. Both individuals have been handed over to the Ipakodo Police Division for comprehensive investigation.

The wreckage of both vehicles was efficiently removed from the roadway by LASTMA personnel to restore seamless traffic flow toward Ikorodu Garage.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, expressed profound grief and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family while wishing the injured a swift recovery.
