The Ondo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has relieved its state secretary, Jimmy Akinyan, of his duties over allegations of indiscipline, anti-party activities, and misconduct.
The announcement was made on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Akure, the Ondo State capital. Party leaders explained that the decision was necessary to enforce discipline and reposition the SDP as a credible opposition force in the state.
In a communiqué released after the meeting, the state chairman of the SDP, Gbenga Akinbuli, disclosed that a review of Akinyan’s conduct found him guilty of “acts of sabotage during elections, insubordination, and financial misconduct.”

Akinbuli emphasized that the allegations were serious and could not be overlooked, noting that Akinyan’s actions amounted to a breach of the collective trust within the party. According to him, “In the wisdom of stakeholders, such behaviour cannot coexist with the principles of loyalty and ideological conviction which the SDP stands for.”

To investigate the allegations further, the party announced the constitution of a five-man disciplinary committee chaired by the State Legal Adviser. The committee will determine Akinyan’s continued membership of the SDP.
Meanwhile, Mr. Femi Ikoyi has been appointed as the new state secretary to fill the vacant position.
Akinbuli maintained that the decision was part of broader efforts to strengthen the SDP in Ondo State. He said, “This is not just a disciplinary measure, but the beginning of a broader effort to purge the SDP of sabotage and infiltration. We are determined to build a party of conviction and loyalty, one that offers Nigerians a true alternative rooted in service to the people.”
