Some aggrieved residents of Ondo State have protested against the mining activities of a private company in the state.

The protesting residents, who are the landlords of Mercy Land Community, close to Shash market in Oba Ile North LGA, lamented that the activities of the company were destroying their houses and properties.

The residents accused Ebenezer Mining and Ceramic Industry Limited of causing havoc in the community.

According to them, property worth millions of naira had been destroyed by activities of the mining company with no compensation. A spokesman for the protesting residents, Ayo Oladapo, said “We are facing a huge number of challenges as a result of the blast from the Ebenezer construction company. Houses have been pulled down, and several of our houses now have holes, as a result of blasts.”

A member of the management team of the mining company, who refused to disclose his name, said the residents have engaged the company in roundtable talks.

He, however, added that the company had also advised a joint letter with the members of the community to the Ministry of Mines to set modalities in ensuring a working solution.

Efforts by Daily Trust to reach Mr Alabi Johnson, the Special Adviser on Energy to the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, proved abortive.
