The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Enu-Owa Division, over what he described as unprofessional conduct in the handling of a recent case involving social media influencer Adefolarin Ayomiposi, popularly known as Mandykiss.
The decision followed public outrage after a viral video showed Mandykiss recording and taking snapshots of suspects while in police custody at the Enu-Owa Division.
The incident, which sparked widespread concern, prompted a swift internal investigation by the Command.
According to preliminary findings, no police personnel accompanied Mandykiss during the arrest. She was reportedly assisted by some of her social media followers, who helped her trace Mrs. Akinwole Sabitu and her daughter, Miss Akinwole Oyindamola, the suspects accused of alleged cyberbullying.
After the arrest, the influencer was seen in a video recording herself while conveying the suspects to the station. Upon arrival, she handed them over to the police but went on to take their photographs within the station premises and post them online; an act deemed contrary to police protocol and the legal principle of the presumption of innocence.
CP Lawal described the incident as a serious lapse in supervision and professional judgment on the part of the DPO, leading to his immediate redeployment. He stressed that the Command would not tolerate any behavior that undermines public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner reiterated that photographing or recording suspects in custody violates ethical standards and established procedural directives. He warned all officers to remain impartial, professional, and mindful of human rights while handling suspects and complainants alike.
“The conduct of the said officer does not reflect the discipline, integrity, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force,” CP Lawal stated, reaffirming his commitment to accountability and discipline across the Command.
He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his exemplary leadership and guidance, which he said continue to inspire professionalism and operational excellence within the Force.
The Command assured the public that internal disciplinary measures are being enforced to maintain integrity and restore trust in police operations.
