Ondo assures citizens of safety against security threats

Ondo State Governor

The Ondo state government Wednesday reassured residents of their safety following the circulation of a leaked security memo warning of a possible terrorist attack in parts of the state.

The memo, reportedly issued by the State Security Service (SSS) to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure, had surfaced in the media, sparking public concern.

In a statement issued and made available to journalists, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, said the government is fully aware of the memo and has been working closely with security agencies to forestall any potential threat.

Ajanaku added that the leaked memo was part of routine intelligence sharing between security agencies and the government, aimed at identifying and preventing possible security breaches.

He said such reports are a normal part of security operations, containing varying levels of threat assessment used in joint operations to enhance vigilance and proactive response.

He assured residents that the intelligence report was being acted upon by government and relevant security bodies, adding that necessary precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of all citizens and their properties.

He said: “The emphasis remains on maintaining vigilance and cooperation among security agencies and the government to prevent and respond to any potential threats,” the statement added.

The commissioner urges the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security post.
