Onana to undergo Trabzonspor medical Thursday, ahead of loan move

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana is set to complete a loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor, with the club covering his full wages for the season.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Onana will travel to Turkey on Thursday for a medical, with the move finalised after his return from international duty with Cameroon, who face Cape Verde in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Trabzonspor have agreed to pay the 29-year-old’s entire salary, while he will also receive a pay rise due to Turkey’s lower tax rate for foreign players.

Onana had prepared for the new season expecting to stay at United, but his status changed after returning from a hamstring injury.

He was left out of the squad for the clash against Arsenal and later demoted following the deadline-day signing of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

The Cameroonian was named on the bench for Premier League games against Fulham and Burnley, featuring only in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town, where he was criticised for his role in their second goal.

United signed Onana in 2023 for £18.2 million plus add-ons, but his spell has been marred by costly errors, including mistakes against Nottingham Forest, Viktoria Plzen and Lyon.
