As today marks the fifth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests and the tragic Lekki killings of October 20, 2020, we remember the victims and Honour the legacy of a youth-led movement that captured global attention.
The #EndSARS protests brought together millions of young Nigerians, but culminated in the tragic events at Lekki Toll Gate, where protesters were shot by security forces.
The anniversary comes as the Nigeria Police Force urged demonstrators to respect a court order restricting Omoyele Sowore’s planned protest to free Nnamdi Kanu to key government areas.
Meanwhile in the United States, millions of people attended mass protests over the weekend against President Donald Trump’s administration in the second round of “No Kings” demonstrations across all 50 states. Protesters came out to condemn ICE raids and troop deployments in US cities.
In Anambra State, Arise TV Anchor, Producer, and Reporter Sommie Maduagwu was laid to rest this weekend in a funeral service at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in her hometown of Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area. Family, friends and colleagues attended the funeral, including former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
In other news, a viral video from the weekend features Nollywood actress Regina Daniels who appeared distressed while complaining about violence in her marriage to Senator representing Delta North senatorial district, Ned Nwoko.
In response, Senator Ned Nwoko issued a statement in a post on X, denying the allegations, and instead accused his wife of substance abuse and violent behavior.
In Anambra State, Peter Obi joined residents of Onitsha to celebrate the Ofala festival. He described the annual event as one of the most cherished cultural celebrations, recalling attending it since his secondary school days.
Finally, the Adeleke family gathered to celebrate the wedding of Brenda Adeleke and her partner, Diamond Orabiyi. Brenda is the daughter of the late former Osun State Governor, Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, with the event bringing together members of the political and social family.
