Omokri Blasts Obi Over Silence On Simon Ekpa’s Jail Sentence In Finland Despite Being Quick To Call For K1’s Arrest For Hijacking Plane

Former presidential aide and author, Reno Omokri, has taken a swipe at the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, over his silence on the conviction of Biafran agitator, Simon Ekpa, in Finland.

In a post shared on his verified X account on Tuesday, Omokri drew a comparison between Obi’s silence on Ekpa’s case and his earlier demand for the arrest and prosecution of popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, also known as K1 De Ultimate, following the ValueJet incident.

According to Omokri, Obi’s different stances reveal a double standard in his approach to issues of justice.

He wrote:  “24 hours later, Peter Obi has still not said anything about Simon Ekpa’s arrest, trial, or conviction. This is the same man who called for the arrest, trial, and imprisonment of King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, AKA K1 De Ultimate, after the ValueJet incident.

“That is Peter Obi’s justice: arrest a musician from the Southwest, protect a terrorist from the Southeast!”

Reports from Information Nigeria earlier confirmed that Simon Ekpa, a prominent Biafran political activist and long-term resident of Finland, was on Monday sentenced to six years’ imprisonment by a Finnish district court on terrorism charges.

The court found Ekpa guilty of participating in a terrorist organisation and publicly inciting crimes for terrorist purposes.

According to the judgment, Ekpa leveraged his large social media following to promote and fuel violent agitations for Biafra’s independence between August 2021 and November 2024.

He was also found to have supplied armed groups with weapons, explosives, and ammunition, while encouraging his supporters in Nigeria to engage in criminal activities.

Ekpa, who denied all charges, relocated to Finland in 2007 and once served as a local councillor in the city of Lahti.

Prior to his conviction, the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation had frozen his assets, along with those of his associates and affiliated companies.
