Olugbuyiro Akinola, a distinguished legal practitioner, specialising in tax law, litigation, and public policy has been sworn in as Commissioner of the Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT), underscoring the Federal government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s tax dispute resolution framework and advancing fiscal justice.
The appointment is also considered a catalyst to the government’s strategic focus on institutionalising competent leadership to drive economic coordination and growth. This is as the Ministry of Finance reiterates its commitment to a transparent, modernised tax system that supports Nigeria’s sustainable development goals.
Prior to his recent appointment, Akinola served as the state legal adviser LACO fs. Renowned for his expertise and leadership, he brings over 27 years of legal practice, specialising in tax law, litigation, and public policy.
According to the Tax Appeal Tribunal, the Akure born commercial litigator’s appointment reinforces the Tribunal’s mandate to ensure fair, efficient, and transparent resolution of tax disputes.
Moreso, the appointment aligns with the government’s agenda to enhance tax administration, boost revenue generation, and foster a business-friendly environment through equitable dispute mechanisms.
TAT also noted that Akinola’s role will be pivotal in advancing ongoing reforms at the Tribunal, including digitisation of processes and reducing case backlogs.
The swearing-in ceremony was presided by Wale Edun, the minister for Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, held recently in Abuja.
The event was attended by Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, immediate past commissioner for Youth & Sport and DG LACO fs., Rasheed Badmus, immediate past commissioner for culture & tourism and LACO fs coordinator in Akoko- North West, Ondo State.
Also gracing the occasion are Deji Owolabi, the Ajafogun of Ita-Ogbolu, and Mayowa Gbalaja, the Onibedo of Ita-Ogbolu,Akinola Awodeyi Akinsehinwa aka APata, among others.
