Former Oyo State Governor and Olubadan-designate, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, has returned to Ibadan, six weeks after the passing of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
Oba Olakulehin passed away on Monday, 7 July, and was buried on Friday, 8 August. Ladoja had been out of town prior to the late monarch’s transition.
Oba Ladoja arrived in Ibadan Monday at exactly 1:20pm and went directly to his family home, where he was received by relatives and friends. Special prayers were held in his honour, conducted in both Muslim and Christian traditions.
Following the prayers, the Olubadan-designate proceeded to his Bodija residence, where a large crowd of family members, friends and residents of the ancient city gathered to welcome him.
It is understood that Oba Ladoja is set to undergo the traditional rites required for his installation as the 44th Olubadan.
Members of the Olubadan-In-Council had, on Monday, 4 August, after a 21-day mourning period for Oba Olakulehin, unanimously nominated and approved Oba Ladoja as Olubadan-designate. Ladoja was not in attendance during the palace meeting at Oke-Aremo, Ibadan.
The Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, moved the motion, which was seconded by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole. Oba Ajibola said the name of Ladoja would be forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde for approval.
