Okada Rider Swept Away By Flood In Edo Discovered Dead


The body of a commercial motorcycle rider, identified as Frank Omoruyi, who was swept away by floodwaters in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, has been recovered.

His remains were discovered in a pit on Wednesday evening, about 24 hours after he was reported missing in the flood incident.

The tragic incident occurred along Uwenlenbo Road, near Zekor Hotel in Ekpoma, after a heavy downpour that lasted from Monday night into Tuesday. Omoruyi was said to have been navigating through a flooded road when the raging water overpowered him.

A viral video of the incident, circulated on various social media platforms, showed the motorcyclist struggling with the current while conveying a female passenger before he was swept away.

Eyewitnesses who recorded the video could be heard confirming that the deceased had a female passenger on board at the time of the accident.

According to Daily Trust, some passers-by attempted to rescue the victim while he battled the flood, but their efforts proved unsuccessful as the current carried him away.

A community source revealed that the deceased’s body was eventually discovered at a borrow pit in Ekpoma around 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday by a worker who had come to the site.
