Ogun: Police kill 2 suspected kidnappers in gun duel

The Ogun State Police Command said its operatives killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued four hostages at the Delabo junction, along Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway.

The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamuutu made this known to newsmen on Wednesday at a press conference held at the Command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Alamutu explained that the suspects who were located hiding in a bush had opened fire on sighting the law enforcement team.

He disclosed that the anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects, while the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons.

The recovered items according to the CP include 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five AK-47K rifles, eight AK-47 magazines and two cell phones.

He said, “Through a covert operation, the suspects were located in a bush where they were hiding. Upon noticing the police officers’ flashlight, they engaged in a gun battle with the law enforcement team.

“The Anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects, while the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons.

“The victims later identified as one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were safely rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.”

He urged the public to report individuals displaying gunshot wounds under reasonable suspicions adding that a rapid response team has been deployed to enhance security along the Sagamu-Benin road.
