In a swift operation, the Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two Cameroonian nationals tied to a ruthless syndicate that allegedly entices victims with promises of foreign visas before kidnapping them for ransom.
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, announced the arrests on Tuesday, revealing that Anti-Kidnapping Unit operatives acted on a distress call received around 10:30 a.m. from a Cameroonian woman who escaped her captors.
The victim detailed how she was lured to Nigeria on September 29, 2025, by a compatriot named Donald, who falsely assured her of assistance in obtaining a Canadian visa.
Upon arrival at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, she was picked up by the fake “agency” and taken to Mowe in Ogun State, where she and her 23-year-old sister were confined against their will.
Odutola stated: “The victim managed to flee on November 3 and immediately contacted authorities, disclosing that additional captives were detained in a two-bedroom flat in the Pakuro area”.
Responding promptly, police raided the location, rescuing another unharmed victim, Kengne Maeva. Suspects Ndzana Kamga Isidore and Tingue Stephen were captured on-site, but the mastermind, Donald, evaded arrest and remains at large.
Investigations uncovered that the victims’ relatives in Cameroon had transferred 3,600,000 CFA francs as ransom to Donald’s bank account.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo has ordered heightened surveillance of such syndicates statewide.
He further mandated tactical units to collaborate with community leaders and Community Development Association (CDA) chairmen, particularly in rural zones, to flag any dubious foreign renters.
Ogunlowo emphasized the force’s resolve: “We are fully committed to protecting lives and property, ensuring Ogun State offers no refuge for criminals.”
