The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 area command said it has recorded a total sum of N45,054,191.00 for the month of July, 2025.
The revenue, according to the area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla is an increase of 27.4% recorded in the corresponding month in 2024, totaling N35,327,852,00.
Speaking at the press briefing held at Idiroko border, Thursday, the Comptroller said the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizures amounts to N1,401,531,923.95, representing a significant economic loss to smugglers but a huge gain to the national economy and security.
He added that the inter-agency collaboration framework with sister agencies has yielded positive results, in the drive against smuggling.
Other seizures, according to the area commander includes, Foreign Parboiled Rice of 50kg each 4,424 bags, which is over 7 truckloads, and Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as marijuana of 50 sacks and 1,936 parcels of coconut size.
Others are 6400 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 105 pieces of Used Pneumatic Tyres, 21 bales and 3 sacks of used clothings and 3 units of foreign used vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce worth billions of Naira.
“This remarkable growth is a reflection of our enhanced compliance drive, improved monitoring of border activities, and robust stakeholder engagement.
“Consistent with our inter-agency collaboration framework, the illicit drugs seized will today be handed over to the Commander of the NDLEA, Idiroko Special Command, for further investigation and necessary action.
“This synergy is not only in compliance with government directives but also reinforces our collective determination to safeguard public health, ensure national security, and protect the future of our youths from the devastating effects of hard drugs”, he said
The area Controller however, warned that his officers will continue to be vigilant, resolute, and unyielding in the fight against smuggling and economic saboteurs.
“No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our officers will continue to thwart your antics, and we shall bring the full weight of the law against you”, he added
