Ogun Assembly passes resolution to immortalise late Onanuga

The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the state government to immortalise the late former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, by renaming the Court Junction-Simawa Road and some of her projects in her honour.

The passage of the resolution followed a debate led by the sponsor of the motion, Damilare Bello, who represents the Sagamu I State Constituency, and was supported by all the state lawmakers.

DAILY POST reports that Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State, passed away on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, after a brief illness.

The Ogun State lawmakers, while extolling the virtues of the late federal lawmaker, described her as a distinguished daughter of the state who contributed immensely to its development and that of the nation.

In the same vein, the Assembly also paid glowing tributes to several eminent Nigerians from the state who have passed away in the last two weeks, commending their unwavering commitment to their communities, the state, and the nation.

The lawmakers, in their various remarks, praised these individuals as prominent sons of the state who had left indelible marks in commerce, industry, and the political landscape of both the state and the nation.

Leading the report to the Assembly on the passing of a prominent industrialist, the late Chief Ogooluwa Adio Bankole, was former Speaker Olakunle Oluomo. He described the deceased as a pioneering industrialist who established the first paint industry in Ifo Local Government Area in 1985 and credited much of his professional success to him.

The Minority Leader, Adeleye Lukman, formally reported the passing of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a renowned political leader, Awoist, foundation member of the then National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, and elder statesman who dedicated his life to fighting for justice and truth.

The lawmaker representing Odogbolu State Constituency also extended condolences to the people of Odogbolu on the passing of the Alaye of Odogbolu, Oba Adedeji Olusegun Onagoruwa, who died yesterday.

The Majority Leader, Yusuf Abiodun, paid tribute to another distinguished Nigerian, the late Senator Solomon Otegbola, describing him as a reputable political leader who represented Ogun West Senatorial District during the Third Republic.

The state lawmakers, led by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide, shared heartfelt tributes to all the deceased and observed a minute’s silence in their honour.
