Official: Ladoja crowned 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland

Former Oyo State Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has officially ascended the throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in a colourful traditional ceremony.

The coronation began at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, where Ladoja received the symbolic Akoko leaf before proceeding to the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, where he was formally crowned.

Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to present him with the staff and instruments of office at the historic Mapo Hall later today.

Ladoja succeeds the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who passed away on July 7, 2025.

The installation ceremony drew large crowds of residents and guests in colourful traditional attire. Distinguished personalities in attendance included the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Ọlaoye; former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; and the Chief Imam of Ibadan.

Security was tight across the city, with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), soldiers, and police officers deployed to maintain order.

The Olubadan stool, renowned for its distinctive and orderly succession process, remains one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional institutions.
