The Kogi state commissioner for information and communication Kingsley Fanwo has said that the commitment of the state governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to education has yielded results at Kogi State University Kabba, describing the quality roads and standard structures being constructed in the institution as remarkable.
Fanwo started this on Monday during a media tour of Governor Ododo’s projects in Kogi western senatorial district of the state .
Speaking at the Kogi State University Kabba, the commissioner who visibly glad over some completed projects , lauded the state governor’s commitment to education, pointed out that his achievements in education sector has proved those claiming that the state has no resources to finance three universities simultaneously.
He charged the management of the university to maintain academic standard to spur the governor to do more for the institution.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Temitope Eniola in his welcome address commended the governor for supporting the institution, describing the institution as one of the fastest-growing universities in the country.
“We are not just having a bridge, but we are having a fantastic road network into the university. We are also looking at the physical structures in the institutions as the buildings, and the roads are fantastic and of high quality ” he stated
The VC who attributed the transformation of the university to former governor Yahaya Bello, thank Governor Ododo for the passion and zeal he has for educational development.
The projects inspected during the visit include a completed administrative building, an ongoing senate building, male and female hostels, and renovations of mass communication and theatre arts departments.
In addition, the media tour led by the commissioner for information and communication Kingsley Fanwo visited some erosion control sites in Kabba where residents of the town have commended the state government for its proactive intervention in tackling erosion and flood challenges.
One of the community leader, Ojo Sunday Martins who spoke on behalf of the community noted that the local government had suffered devastating environmental problems in the past, with flooding destroying properties worth millions of naira.
According to him “Before now, whenever it rains residents are always in state of confusion because of the devastated effect of flood, but today, through the help of our governor Ahmed Usman Ododo , we can now sleep with two of our eyes closed.
“We commend the governor for coming to our aid in tackling the menace of erosion and flooding in our community” Martins said.
Another resident, Mrs. Funke Aiyedogbon, described the intervention as timely and life-saving, saying “many families have lost their farms and houses as a result of erosion in Kabba town, noting that with the help of ACReSAL project the erosion devastation has been tamed by the government,” she stated.
Commenting on the erosion control project, the commissioner for works Muhammed Ahovi, noted that the ACReSAL project is part of the government’s long-term vision to secure lives and property while boosting agriculture and rural development.
