Popular Nigerian actor and content creator, Odira Nwobu, has passed away.
His death was first made public on Monday through a Facebook post by fellow content creator and blogger, Awuzie Frankline, who shared a video showing the actor lying lifeless.
Although Frankline did not give official details about the circumstances surrounding the death, reports circulating online claim that Nwobu died only a few hours after clubbing in South Africa over the weekend.
No formal statement has yet been issued by his family.
In an emotional outpouring on Facebook, Frankline expressed deep shock over the news. “God, why! ODIRA, why leave us… The call I received just now was not a good one,” he wrote, adding the hashtag #Odiegwu.
He went on to lament how the actor appeared healthy and lively just hours earlier. “You were full of life even just a few hours ago in South Africa, and you even had your thanksgiving service a few months ago. Many people came to celebrate with you. How can you return from South Africa lifeless? Honestly, I am drowning in tears. Death is rude. I am heartbroken,” he said.
Another actress, Evan Okoro, also expressed disbelief over the news. Sharing a photo of Nwobu, she wrote, “How? No! I can’t believe this, nooooo,” capturing the shock felt within the entertainment industry.
Nwobu, known for his roles in Nollywood comedy and action films, had experienced a serious car accident a few months ago. A viral video from the scene showed bystanders helping victims from the wrecked vehicle.
