Obaseki’s Aide Dismisses Rumours Of Ex-Governor Fleeing Nigeria

2 weeks ago 19

An aide to former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has refuted reports circulating in some media outlets that the ex-governor has left the country.

Speaking anonymously to Punch, the aide clarified that Obaseki was in Lagos on Sunday, where he was hosted by friends and business associates.

The aide also confirmed that Obaseki addressed the people of Edo in a broadcast on Monday night, expressing his gratitude for the support he received throughout his tenure.

Despite these reassurances, Obaseki was notably absent on Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony of Monday Okphebholo as the new governor of Edo State.

The absence has fueled speculation, but Obaseki’s team maintains that the former governor is dedicated to Edo’s progress and has no intentions of distancing himself from the state.

Speaking on the whereabout of Obaseki, the aide said, “There is no truth that the former governor has fled the country. There is no need for him to do that. His friends hosted him in Lagos on Sunday and he spoke to the Edo people in a broadcast on Monday.

“It is mischievous to say that Obaseki has run away from the country. He will remain in Nigeria and still support the Edo people.”
