Usman Bugaje, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Jibia/Kaita Federal Constituency in Katsina State, claimed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo actively pursued a third term in office.
He insisted that Obasanjo “worked day and night” to achieve the third term, and that lawmakers who opposed him faced threats and intimidation.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Bugaje insisted that Obasanjo “worked day and night” to achieve a third term, and that lawmakers who opposed him faced threats and intimidation.

Bugaje stated, “I can confirm to you that Obasanjo looked for that time, he did everything that he could within his power to look for a third term but he failed to do it.
Now, the fact that he did not make a telephone call to make a particular call to anybody is not sufficient evidence that he did not look for that time, it’s just simply the style, it’s a matter of style.”
He added, “All of us in the National Assembly at that time knew beyond any doubt that he worked day and night.
“There were many of us who were threatened by his own agents and there were people who suffered different types of harm.
“It was a very tense period for those of us who stood up against him.”
Bugaje recalled, “I remember Senator Victor Lar, then the leader of the Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives, had to hide in a number of places.
“This was before we eventually were able to hold one critical gathering that helped galvanise the country in standing up to Obasanjo’s third term.”
He further said, “There are so many evidences. Those who actually distributed the money and threatened us are still alive.
“Those who received the money are alive. Those who refused to receive them are alive. That is sufficient evidence.”
