Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has hinted at a possible governorship bid in 2027 while ruling out the prospect of seeking a fifth term as a legislator.
Obasa made the disclosure on Thursday, during an interview on Television Continental (TVC), addressing questions about his political future.
The Lagos lawmaker indicated that while he has ambitions, any decision would align with the position of his party.

“Every politician has ambitions, but you get to a stage where you cannot determine what comes next.
“If you believe in the party structure, you understand that it’s about consultation, consensus, and the leadership’s direction,” Obasa said.
He explained that personal goals are important but must be harmonized with the broader strategy of the party.
“You have to respect the party’s roadmap. Sometimes, ambition alone cannot drive the decision. It is about the collective good of the party and the people,” he added.
Obasa, who recently survived a leadership challenge that temporarily unseated him as Speaker, also stressed that his focus is shifting away from the Assembly.
Asked whether he would seek re-election as a legislator, he replied, “Not really. I believe it’s time for fresh ideas and new leadership in the Assembly, and I will support that transition.”
On his governorship aspiration, Obasa said, “I have always believed that every stage in one’s political journey should prepare you for the next.
“If the party sees me fit for a higher role, I will consider it seriously, but it must be in the best interest of Lagos State.”
