National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has trained legal officers on their professional roles in ensuring organisational compliance with statutory provisions to strengthen the scheme’s operations.

The workshop, “Optimising the Capacity of Legal Officers for Organisational Compliance With Statutory Provisions,” was held yesterday in Abuja.

The director-general of NYSC, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, emphasised the importance of training in enhancing the organisation’s efficiency and corporate performance.

Ahmed, who was represented by the director of procurement, Chief Chinwendu Chukwu, highlighted the crucial roles of legal officers in ensuring the scheme’s compliance with statutory provisions and shaping public perception.

“The posting of legal officers to various states and the FCT has significantly improved efficiency in legal advice, litigation, and the supervision of the Corps Legal Aid Scheme (CLAS),” Ahmed stated.

He encouraged participants to engage fully in the workshop, which would broaden their skills and prepare them for more effective service delivery.

In his address, the NYSC acting director of legal services, Barrister Chris Ogar, said the workshop was organised to enhance the capacity of legal officers in line with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the legal professions’ stand on continuing legal education for lawyers.

“The workshop is also aimed at assembling our legal officers from different parts of the country to brainstorm and refresh their legal minds on the rudiments of legal practice, particularly in the area of organisational compliance with statutory provisions,” he said.
